Humanitarian AidKAS, Inc. believes that working in adoptions is about more than finding families for children. No matter how many families we find, there will still be children in need who will not be able to live with a loving, nurturing family. There will always be children left behind. We believe that God's word calls each of us to help these "forgotten" children. KAS has several areas of humanitarian giving. A portion of the fees we receive for each adoption case and each home study are channeled to a restricted account whose sole purpose is humanitarian aid. In addition, all donations marked for humanitarian aid go 100% toward humanitarian aid. KAS is a 501 (c) 3, non-profit agency; therefore all donations are tax deductible. For those wishing to contribute, you may do so by sending a check to our agency or by visiting our Donations page online where you may make your donation online using a major credit card or your PayPal account funds. You are not required to hold a PayPal account to make your donation online. Those who submit an online donation will receive a receipt via eMail from PayPal after your transaction is completed. For those submitting a donation by check, our business manager will send you a donation receipt for your tax purposes. KAS has supported orphanages in Guatemala for years through financial gifts, as well as donations of supplies. In late 2006, through the generous contributions of a KAS family's Vacation Bible School Group, an entire orphanage of 150 children received Christmas gifts. In addition KAS has financially donated to orphanages in China, Haiti and El Salvador. KAS has recently committed to a humanitarian aid project in Kenya and looks forward to exploring opportunities for ministry in other African countries, as well as Peru. Read on to learn about the KAS ministry in El Salvador, and the orphanage KAS built in Haiti. KAS has an entire ministry in El Salvador, named Jeremiah 29:11. Mission: The mission of Jeremiah 29:11 is to serve as an instrument in the lives of institutionalized boys and girls in Central America, to help them discover and fulfill the specific purpose that God has for them. The ministry focuses on two areas: Identity and Formation. Identity: Jeremiah 29:11 wants to guarantee that every boy and girl know his/her identity, developing a healthy relationship with his/her biological family. Also, the ministry serves to guide the boys and girls so that they can discover their identity in Jesus Christ. Jeremiah 29:11 is assisting in providing a final diagnosis for the destiny of each child; if they can be qualified for adoption, placed in foster care, reinserted with members of their biological family, or remain institutionalized. To realize this task, preliminary investigatory work was done through the completion of case summaries for the entire population. Also, court hearings were scheduled and held in the six different family courts that represent the children. In the coming months, Jeremiah 29:11 will travel across the country of El Salvador to visit each of the biological families of the children. After the visits are finished, formal recommendations will be made about how the child's needs may best be served. Formation: The ministry works in the professional preparation of the youth through a constant vocational orientation. Also, Jeremiah 29:11 desires to achieve success in the social reinsertion of the young people through a strong spiritual formation. Currently, this institution has no formal vocational program developed for the older children living in the home. As a result, Jeremiah 29:11 has met with several organizations, governmental and non-governmental, which could possibly assist in the creation of a strong vocational program. Potential partnerships could include support in the following areas:
Here at KAS, we are so excited about Jeremiah 29:11 and about continuing our humanitarian aid work bettering the lives of children! KAS Haiti Orphanage: Promises of Hope & Haiti AssistanceIn late 2006, KAS, was able to purchase land in the mountains of Haiti with the long term intent of building a compound to help feed and shelter children in need. In early 2007, the first phase of this compound was completed. KAS made a mission trip in January 2007 and assisted with some of the final touches on this first building! KAS looks forward to being able to be a blessing to the people in this rural area of Haiti. Though the kindness of Missions of Love, a Christian Medical Compound, which graciously has allowed KAS to tap into their infrastructure, this project is coming to fruition! In the Spring of 2007 through some anonymous gifts, KAS was able to build a home for a woman lovingly known as "Grandma" to the neighborhood children. Grandma is widowed and has lost all of her children. She cares for her nine grandchildren and sends the older ones to school on a small monthly stipend provided by Missions of Love. She also frequently feeds and cares for other neighborhood children. Prior to her new home being built, Grandma lived in constant fear of her home falling in on her and her grandchildren. Her home was a mud hut with a roof that was practically non-existent. When it rained, Grandma and her grandchildren slept in the mud. When Grandma learned of plans to build her a concrete brick home she was overjoyed. When her home was completed she danced out front singing praises to God! KAS looks forward to helping others in Haiti in need. Thank you for your support of our mission. |
